Hapi is such a lovebug. Even as a puppy he preferred to give licks rather than nibbles. Growing up, he has been around dogs of all shapes and sizes (having 4 and now 6 cousins with fur), wanting to play with everyone if them. He always cowers and shows his belly to show them that he is non-threatening before he jumps back up into a play bow. His favorite game is chase and enjoys trying to outrun other dogs. He also tempers his play to match the size and age of others. He knows how to gently play with his 12-year-old sister, but rough and tumble with his 3-year-old cousin.
While there are no human children at home, Hapi spends time with his human cousins (8 & 11) and wants to meet every small human there is for pets. He is very gentle with babies, giving them small sniffs and licks. He is very sweet around younger children, especially when they have sticky faces for him to clean off.
He is a bit timid around adults but warms up after a few minutes. He will woof, roo and chuff at them but makes no move to greet them until he feels comfortable. He can be a bit anxious in large crowds but again will settle after some time. However, once he knows you are his best friend! He wants to give all the kisses and get all the pets he can. He may even try to climb up into your lap if you're on a chair or couch!
While he may be shy around people at first, he does not have anxieties that many other dogs have. He is not bothered by thunder or lightning, fireworks, helicopters, motorcycles, or vacuums. He doesn't mind being brushed with a pet vacuum or blown out with an industrial dryer. He isn't a fan of open water but he's warming up to it, however he will stand still for baths.
Indoors, he is very mellow and calm, climbing on top of the toy chest to view outdoors or cuddling up on the couch with his human. He has no problem asking for any type of affection, using his nose to move your hand to be petted.
Outside, he loves to jump and run, and play keep away and hop all over. He does sprints with the dog next door as they are separated by a fence. He loves walks, hikes and sniffing everywhere he can! |
