| Kennel Description | Ferncroft Chinooks is a longtime breeder of the Chinook dog. Our Ferncroft kennel is located in Lakes Region New Hampshire, with our Ferncroft pups placed across the U.S. and Canada. Chinooks are a rare, American dog breed, registered with both the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club and they are the New Hampshire State Dog. We hold memberships in both the Chinook Owners Association and the Chinook Club of America breed clubs. Our goal as breeders is to produce a great representation of the Chinook with a focus on health, pedigree, and complementary traits. We are an AKC Bred With H.E.A.R.T. Breeder. The Chinook is highly trainable, adaptable, and versatile in their skills and abilities. These dogs are four season athletes that we fondly refer to as the couch to trail dog! Chinooks are a working breed and love to have a job. They excel in all kinds of activities including hiking, skijoring, sledding, agility, biking, obedience, lure coursing and nose work. Our Chinooks love to go camping, back country camping, mountain biking, swimming and taking drives with us to watch the sunset. Takoda is a 2nd generation Chinook x Tamaskan cross with the Chinook Breed Conservation Program (CBCP). When bred with a purebred Chinook, he will produce puppies eligible to be UKC registered purebred Chinooks. He is a friendly, easy-going guy with a strong muscular build. Kala is a purebred Chinook, registered with both the United Kennel Club (UKC) and the American Kennel Club (AKC). Kala is an awesome dog because she has the perfect temperament, is affectionate, does great with all people and dogs, and just all around is the best family dog! This breeding combines outstanding hip health, strong genetics, solid temperament, and the genetic diversity offered through the CBCP. Takoda and Kala will produce pups that are clear carrying genes for MRD1, CDDY/IVDD, and Chondrodystrophy. The breeding is expected to occur in late February 2026. Pups will be raised in IL.
